Too Heavy, Too Light

These commercials always get stuck in my head, so today’s football analysis comes to you Too Heavy, Too Light style.

Vikings: 34, Dallas: 3

Sidney Rice had 3 TDs, Favre had 4, and the D held strong. The Cowboys looked like, well, the Cowboys I’m used to as opposed to in the games against Philly. Who called the return of the usual Romo this week? That would be me. The last TD was a little controversial on the Vikings’ part, though… I can see why they did it, but I’m not decided on where I stand with that one yet.

Too Heavy: The Vikings D. 6 sacks, 3 turnovers, and holding Dallas-- who recently looked shockingly decent-- to only a field goal. Special mention to Jared Allen with forced fumbles, passes batted down, great D, and of course, the mullet (& the lifestyle that goes with it).

Too Light:  Wade Phillips’ playoff record. People on espn.com boards were taking bets on how fast he’ll be fired. Apparently he’ll be sticking around for next season at least.

Jets: 17, Chargers: 14

The Jets had 3 straight 3-and-out drives to start out the game, which led me to believe I’d go 4 for 4 in my picks. Not so much. Some may agree with my Giants-fan friends that Philip Rivers is “a cocky asshole,” but talking trash is part of sports, and usually he can back it up. Of course, he didn’t do so hot when it counted and ended with 2 interceptions and a pretty messy 2nd half on Sunday as the Jets ran up the score. Then there were the Chargers’ kicking issues. 3 for 4 on picks this weekend isn’t that bad… except the one I got wrong was the one I had going to the Super Bowl.

Too Heavy: Rex Ryan’s bragging about how great his running game is and all the other random crazy stuff he says. Every time I hear that man’s name, he gives me some reason to dislike him a little more.

Too Light: Mr. Nate Kaeding. I’ve had him as my fantasy kicker for quite some time now and he’s never let me down, hence my surprise as he missed three different attempts. I’ll give him the 57 yarder, but the other 2 were totally doable. Come on, man!

PATs:
  • Kansas State beat #1 Texas 71-62. Told ya another one of the unbeatens would go down soon.
  • Yet another week where UNC loses and Duke wins decisively… and the Canes lose…and the Magic lose…

Hey EastCoastSportsChick

As you know, I am a huge Chargers fan. I have to kindly disagree with your talk of Philip Rivers. He is a good man with a great family. He has good values and great skills. I do believe too many people don't give him the credit he deserves, including ESPN.

That game was bad. They should have gone all the way to the Superbowl. I definitely agree with that pick of yours! The messed it up. They would have had the game if Kaeding made all of his kicks. Unfortunately, in Kaeding's, history...he gets nervous and fails in the play-offs. His confidence level goes down. :( He is a great kicker though!

I still look forward to reading your posts :)
Hope you are doing well!

Hmm Let me clarify, because I love Philip Rivers! That quote was from a friend of mine who is pro-Eli Manning and thinks PR talks trash too much and isn't a great QB. I, on the other hand, think he typically backs up whatever he may say, and honestly thought/hoped they'd make it to the SuperBowl and win this year.
I saw him play in my last game at FSU and have been a fan of his ever since, and think he was definitely treated unfairly in the draft with all the crap Eli pulled b/c he didn't want to go to San Diego (I still say Eli is crazy for that decision...). I think Rivers and the Chargers in general aren't given nearly as much credit as they deserve. Seems like ESPN tends to overlook them, but hopefully one day soon they'll get their ring!
